Who is @gabbitries?

@gabbitries is no stranger to HATCH. In fact her first project with HATCH is the Opus 88 × @gabbitries Desk Creatures Fountain Pens which were first released in two variants (the Whiteboard and the Chalkboard) in January 2023.

These pocket pens are inspired by desk items we "can't live without”, which give us a preview to her art style and personality as she draws relatable themes from everyday life.

Aside from these, @gabbitries is a creative partner who also launched several other fountain pens and inks you can find on HATCH

Among her projects, another one of her popular collaborations is Van Dieman’s Fallen Leaves sheening ink; a vibrant red ink with a touch of drama.

But unlike the bold colors and defined lines in her sketches, @gabbitries can be quiet amidst a crowd. Nonetheless, when you get to know her, you will learn that she’s bubbly, has a cool sense of humor, and has a dynamic personality that easily makes people around her comfortable.

This season, she come back with another fountain pen ink which may become one of your new favorites, the Tono&Lim’s Mangosteen Grey!

Know more about the ink and our HATCH creative’s inspiration!

Question 1: Knowing that your personal favorite colors are browns and greens, what inspired you to choose this specific shade for your HATCH INKfinity? What factors or ideas did you keep in mind when pitching this concept?

@gabbitries: Admittedly, I already have a good number of browns and greens on my little ink “collection” already and I wanted an ink that I can specifically use for sketching – that is not black! And I sketch a lot of items but mostly - fruits, vegetables which is prolly where I got the idea of the mangosteen (aside from being one of my favorite fruits!)

When you see a mangosteen, it really shows a mysterious color - sometimes it looks purple red, purple brown and magenta and I think that drew me into it. I have this old sketch of mangosteen where I used a pencil and that just sparked the whole idea of the color I wanted in my head.

Question 2: The color of your HATCH INKfinity ink is mesmerizing! Looking back at when you first pitched this ink color, how does it feel to see it finally come to life as a finished product?

@gabbitries: Why thank you! I think it's really lovely and I’m having a lot of fun using it for my sketches :)

Really big shoutout to Tono & Lims for bringing this color to life, they nailed it. I’m excited to share it with everyone!

And I hope this ink inspires them to write on that blank paper :)))

Question 3: For those who are not familiar with what a Mangosteen is, can you give us a brief description? What makes mangosteens significant for you?

@gabbitries: Mangosteen is a tropical fruit and it's often called the Queen of Fruits - at least in the Philippines. Don’t ask me why case I have no idea why but in my head it's because of the top part of the fruits looks like a crown :)))))))

My dad likes fruits and will bring home different varieties whenever he comes home and when he brought home Mangosteen - it was a hit! Instantly loved the fruit!

Question 4: Where do you draw inspiration in exploring projects to do? What keeps you inspired?

@gabbitries: It's usually my surroundings - I just take time to notice what is around me really. It usual starts with seeing colors in everyday things - like the shadows in play, or the colors of the flowers in the garden etc. So I guess to answer the question of what keeps me inspired is the noticing. Noticing the things around me and discovering their possibilities.

Question: 5: What do you like drawing the most? What is the most challenging subject for you to draw?

@gabbitries: I love drawing fruits and vegetables! And have been having such a lovely time drawing beetles and birds too!

I also love sketching things I see during travels!

A portrait is really hard for me and takes a lot of energy to draw :))))

Question 6: How did you first find out about HATCH and how was your experience working with HATCH? Is there any specific detail you’re glad you were able to represent in your design?

@gabbitries: When it first launched! I was there behind the scenes :)))

This was not intentional but being able to showcase an Asian fruit is pretty nice!

Question 7: You have another upcoming collaboration to launch with HATCH that’s not been announced yet. We’re all excited for this too. Can you briefly describe your concept to give insight into what people can expect next from you and HATCH?

@gabbitries: Yay! Yes all I can say is, let’s get those wine glasses out :)

Question 8: What’s the best way to keep up with you and your work? (Share your socials)

@gabbitries: Everything creative and silly @gabbitries :)
